The next morning (second day of skiing), as soon as I woke up, my muscles were extremely sore and tense (more than the night before), especially my arms and my entire upper body. It was so painful that I needed Alien to help me to get dressed! In fact, all of us had talked about whether we (my female friend and I) should take a ski lesson or not while we were eating dinner. She and I are both beginners, and we had never taken a ski lesson before, therefore, our husbands agreed that we should go ahead and do it!
I had not dared to give a firm yes to everyone, because I wanted to see how sore I would be the next day. Before breakfast, I mumbled that I was in too much pain to go skiing again, but in my head, I tried hard to convince myself to keep trying. We all reached a consensus after breakfast; Alien called to get an appointment for the wives, but it was difficult to get a lesson since it’s the ski season, and we hadn't planned ahead. He called three different companies, finally; he got a one-hour lesson for us on the third call (we were thinking about two hours). It was the last vacancy, and it was the latest possible time we could get, too (4:30pm-5:30pm).
I told Alien that I needed to rest, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to ski for the lesson. We arrived at the ski station in the afternoon. The weather was beautiful and sunny, and it was a delightful day! There weren’t many people yet on the Bunny slope when we were walking around with our regular shoes. Suddenly for some reason, I had an urge to ski again.
“Let’s go skiing!” I said to Alien.
“Are you sure? Aren’t you still sore?” He asked skeptically, and surprised that I would bring it up first.
“Didn’t you say that I would forget about the soreness once I start skiing?”
He did not say more; we rushed back to change and get our ski equipment, and there we went again!
We didn’t want to waste time waiting for the Magic carpet (it took so long every time), so we decided to walk up the slope with skis in our hands. We did that for about ten times, and we were completely exhausted afterwards (It did save quite a lot of time though)! However, I would still smile for the camera!
P.S. I learnt how to fall on my side that day, but I also strained a muscle in my right thigh.
Our friends showed up an hour and a half before the lesson. Her husband helped her to practice the gliding wedge and the snowplough. I skied along with her for a while, but I went to rest again! I needed to regain my strength and to store up more energy for the lesson!
The ski lesson began!
Our ski instructor was super nice; he spoke clearly; his instructions were simple and easy to understand. He corrected our faults immediately when needed; he answered our questions patiently when we asked. We learnt how to walk on snow with skis, the gliding wedge, the snowplough and the snowplough turns within one hour!
Two tips for first-time skiers – learn from a ski instructor and don’t learn from your partners!
Beautiful after sunset views~
We went back to the hotel, and we got ready for New Year’s Eve. I mentioned that the dinner was delicious in one of the articles before, and here are the photos! There were two starters (Foie Gras on the top right corner); The main course was duck, and it was really good! There were cheeses, but I didn't take the photo. The dessert was very sweet, but I like it sweet, so it was excellent!
We were planning to go skiing again the next day, but Alien had a wound on his right foot and it became worse (His foot was skinned by ski boots on the first day, but he continued to ski the next day, so it got infected. He couldn’t walk normally.)! As for me, I felt more sore all over my body; therefore, we had to give up skiing and went back home.
I have to say that my second day was very different from the first day. I gained a lot more confident after the ski lesson. Now, I am looking forward to go skiing again! I know it’s probably normal to feel this way; as I kept falling down at the beginning, and Alien wasn’t being very understanding and I felt frustrated at the time. However, that’s all in the past. I hope that I will be able to go skiing again in the near future, and I want to make sure that I improve it every time I go. Of course, I don’t expect to be excellent at it, but I would like to challenge the next level in a few years!
Well, that’s what I have in mind, but skiing is expensive… I guess money will be an issue if we wanted to do it every year!
P.S. I learnt how to get up on my own by unfix one of the bindings… hahaha!
